Morty not realizing the energy connection is fun. So Sonic can follow the connection and Morty is going to say he grabbed them from the lab to keep them out of anyone's hands. And will ask if he can keep them but if not, he'll give them back. Since he'll have them at least during Sonic's recovery so he can study them that long.
